Approximately 4000 Nepalese enter India on Saune Sankranti

Dhangadhi: Saune Sankranti festival is being celebrated in the Far- Western region today. All the nine districts have been celebrating the first day of Saune Sankranti. There is a tradition of celebrating Sankranti festival on Shrawan 1 every year.

Families and relatives gather at one place and celebrate, the farmers who are tired due to farming paddy throughout the month of July await the Sankranti. Especially in the hilly districts this day is considered auspicious to prevent and get rid of skin diseases.

But this year, about four thousand Nepalis have entered India through two checkpoints in western Nepal, Gauriphanta and Gaddachauki on Saune Sankranti. The District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, has made public the details of the movement from the border, stating that 3,991 people have entered India today. A total of 1,690 men, 1,699 women and 314 children have entered India through Gauriphanta.

One hundred and ninety men, 36 women and 12 children have gone to India through Gaddachauki. The number of people returning to Nepal from India is low, according to data released by the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur. Six hundred and thirty-eigh people have returned to Nepal through both the checkpoints.
