Sit-in protest organised in Dhangadhi demanding investigation of journalist Nirmala Paharai’s death
A 23-year-old journalist Nirmala Paharai who was working for Kailali FM in Sukhad of Ghodaghodi Municipality was found hanging in a jungle on Friday.
People from the Dalit society and organizations held demonstrations as they suspect Paharai’s demise to be a murder.
The sit-in protest was staged at the main gate of the District Administration Office demanding action against the accused.
Dalit organizations have staged a demonstration in Dhangadhi demanding action against the person involved in the murder after investigating the incident.
They allege that Pahari was killed by her co-worker journalist Lalit Jagri. They said that he tempted her to marry him and performed the crime.
Journalist Lalit Jagri, a former colleague of Ghodaghodi Municipality, has been taken into custody for questioning in the incident.
Chief of the Area Police Office, Sukhad, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Bohora said that a complaint has been lodged by the victim although Jagri was taken under control for questioning.
He said that further investigation will start on the basis of the complaint. The police is waiting for the post-mortem report for further investigations to be carried out. The victim's family has been demanding action against the accused.
Paharai, a permanent resident of Ghodaghodi Municipality, Ward No. 4, had been missing since September 16 and was found hanging on Friday. The body of the deceased has been kept at Seti Provincial Hospital.
