Families displaced by floods in Kailali starve on postal highway

Dhangadhi: The locals of Kailali's Bhajani Municipality are starving on the local postal highway after the floods from various rivers swept their settlements.

Displaced people have complained that they have not received food for three days. Sukay Dagaura of Bhajani-8, Sonaphanta, who was living on the postal highway, said that they had not had food for the last two days.

"Even though it is difficult to get water, there is no support from the local level and other bodies," he said. About 750 families have been living in tents on the postal highway alone.
Arun Chaudhary, who was displaced by the floods, said that all the food was destroyed when water flooded his house. "We do not even have drinking water. People's representatives have not been seen when there is a problem, ”he said.

According to the District Police Office, Kailali, 3,500 families have been displaced due to floods in the district on Wednesday and Thursday. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratik Bista, the floods in Kandra, Kanda and Patharaiya rivers have caused the most problems in Bhajani area.

Mayor of Bhajani Sher Bahadur Chaudhary said that food including noodles, biscuits and rice was distributed to the displaced families on Thursday.
Displaced families have not been able to return home on due to continuous rains and risk of more flood.
