Bardagoriya Rural Municipality to Provide Free Drinking Water for One Year

Kailali: Bardagoriya Rural Municipality in Kailali is set to provide clean drinking water services free of charge.

While inaugurating the Ranikunda Drinking Water Project, completed in Ward No. 3, Rural Municipality Chairperson Karna Bahadur Kunwar announced that consumers served by the project would receive drinking water free of charge for one year.

Chairperson Kunwar said discussions and coordination are underway with the federal and provincial governments, as well as the World Bank, regarding fee concessions for a certain volume of water consumption even after the initial year.

“We will provide free drinking water to the people served by this project for one year. We are also coordinating and discussing with federal, provincial, and local governments, along with the World Bank, to determine the extent of concessions that can be offered thereafter,” he said.

He noted that, unlike elsewhere, residents of the municipality do not face the burden of paying large sums for tap connections or expensive monthly water bills.

Local residents are enthusiastic as the commitments made by Chairperson Kunwar during the 2079 Local Level Elections are gradually being fulfilled. The rural municipality is currently providing free education, quality healthcare services at the doorstep, college operations, mortuary (cold storage) facilities, financial assistance for funeral rites, and post-mortem services.
