Over 100 Households Affected by Floods, Landslides and River Erosion in Baitadi

Baitadi: More than 100 households in Baitadi have been affected by floods, landslides and river erosion following continuous rainfall.

Five houses have been damaged by a landslide in Purchaudi, while 35 houses are at high risk.

Preparations are underway to relocate 70 households living along the Seti River in Sigas Rural Municipality-5 and 6 to safer locations due to flooding. Similarly, preparations are underway to shift 15 households from Dilasaini Rural Municipality-1 to safer places following flooding in the Chameliya River, Chief District Officer Meena Aryal said.

Five houses in Parki Tole, Kuwakot, Purchaudi Municipality-5, have been damaged by a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall along a road dug by a dozer. Local Kiran Parki said 35 houses are at risk.

The landslide has completely damaged the houses of Kishore Kunwar, Kailo Parki and Nare Parki, while landslides have occurred around the houses of Dani Parki and Naveen Parki, he said. He added that the displaced families are worried about where they will go.

Chief District Officer Aryal said the main road connecting Purchaudi Municipality to Dholyamod has also been blocked due to the landslide. She said more than 100 households in Sigas Rural Municipality, Purchaudi Municipality and Dilasaini Rural Municipality have been affected by river erosion and landslides.

Chief District Officer Aryal said coordination is underway with local levels to provide proper relief and compensation to families affected by floods and landslides.

“Although there has been no human loss so far, people have been affected. The District Security Committee is coordinating everywhere for rescue and relief,” she said.
