Gas Shortage Halts Midday Meal Preparation at Dhangadhi’s Centralized Kitchen

Dhangadhi: A shortage of cooking gas has disrupted the preparation of midday meals at the centralized kitchen of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City.

The Education, Youth and Sports Division of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City said midday meals could not be prepared at the kitchen on Thursday due to a shortage of gas in the market.

Division Chief Ghumman Singh Badayak said the lack of gas prevented the kitchen from preparing and providing midday meals to children at community schools in Dhangadhi on Thursday.

The centralized kitchen provides midday meals to around 3,100 children at community schools in the market area. Shekhar Joshi, the kitchen’s quality control officer, said meals could not be prepared and supplied to schools on Thursday because of the gas shortage. According to Joshi, five gas cylinders are required to prepare the meals at a time, but the kitchen had only two cylinders remaining.

Joshi said the gas had run out on Wednesday, but suppliers did not provide additional cylinders, resulting in the cancellation of Thursday’s lunch preparation. The vendor received three cylinders at 10 am on Thursday, but preparing the meals would have taken at least five hours.

As the kitchen must deliver the meals to schools by 12 pm, it was not possible to prepare and supply Thursday’s lunch. Joshi said arrangements would be made to prevent gas shortages in the coming days.
