District-Wide Livestock Vaccination Campaign Launched in Bajura

Bajura: The first-ever district-wide vaccination campaign to control various diseases in livestock has been effective in Bajura.

The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center, Bajura, has been conducting the vaccination campaign across all nine local levels of the district since December 2082 BS. Under the campaign, 174,598 doses of vaccines against cholera, lumpy skin disease, PPR and ET have been administered.

According to center chief Siddharaj Jaishi, vaccination services have been provided in every ward of all nine local levels to prevent various livestock diseases. A total of 28 vaccinators and animal technicians have been mobilized for the campaign.

Under the campaign, 67,517 livestock have been vaccinated against cholera, which affects cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep. Similarly, 3,496 cows and buffaloes have been vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, 15,720 sheep and goats against PPR, and 2,000 animals against ET disease.

Jaishi said that since the district-wide vaccination campaign began, there has been no outbreak of these diseases, helping control infections and reduce potential risks.

“Farmers may have to bear huge losses if cholera, lumpy skin, PPR and ET infections occur in livestock. Therefore, it is important to vaccinate before the disease occurs rather than waiting for treatment,” he said.

He said this is the first time a district-wide vaccination campaign has been launched by reaching villages in a remote and geographically difficult district like Bajura, where timely access to vaccination services has been a problem.

Farmers, who previously had to travel to municipalities and the district headquarters when their livestock faced problems, have expressed relief after receiving free vaccination services in their villages. Local resident Dal Bahadur Rawat said free and accessible vaccination services have provided significant relief to farmers who have suffered financial losses due to the lack of regular vaccination services and declining milk and meat production caused by livestock losses.

Meanwhile, the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center, Bajura, said it provided treatment and animal health consultation services to 25,278 animals and birds in the last fiscal year.

As per its target, the center conducted four animal health camps in Badimalika Municipality-1, Gaumul Rural Municipality-1, and wards 6 and 7 of Khaptad Chhededaha Rural Municipality, where 6,074 animals and birds were treated and vaccinated.
