Anami Premila Carries 7-Month-Old Baby While Rushing to Save Another Mother’s Life

Bajhang: While taking 26-year-old Binita Bohara of Bhanpali, Bungal Municipality-3, to Khiratadi Health Post for delivery, a complication developed on the way. The condition of both the mother and unborn baby became critical after the baby’s shoulder became stuck during delivery.

After learning about the incident and the delay in reaching the health facility, Senior Anami Premila Kumari Bohara, who works at Khiratadi Health Post, immediately headed to the scene.

Premila herself is the mother of a 7-month-old baby. Despite the responsibility of caring for her own young child, she prioritized saving the life of another mother in distress.

After reaching the scene, Premila assessed Binita’s condition inside the car. Recognizing that the baby’s shoulder was stuck, she immediately began emergency obstetric management using the limited resources available.

Binita eventually gave birth to a 3.3-kilogram baby girl inside the car. Although the newborn was suffocated for some time after birth, Premila provided immediate care, and the baby’s condition gradually returned to normal.

Both Binita and her newborn daughter are currently reported to be in normal condition.

In remote areas, reaching specialist services, necessary equipment and health facilities can take time when emergency complications occur during childbirth. In such situations, the immediate decisions, skills and experience of health workers can be life-saving for patients.

In Binita’s case, the car became a makeshift delivery room after the complication occurred on the way. Premila managed the delivery using her skills and experience despite the lack of hospital facilities and adequate equipment.

Despite being responsible for her own 7-month-old baby, Premila’s commitment to serving and rescuing another mother in distress has highlighted the responsibility and humanitarian service provided by health workers in remote areas.

Both the mother and newborn remained safe after Premila reached the scene on time, identified the complication and provided immediate care. Her efforts have become an example of the professional responsibility of healthcare workers and their humanitarian commitment to saving lives during times of crisis.
