Dhangadhi: The first general convention of the Rastriya Swantantra Party (RSP) is currently underway in Chitwan, with preparations in place to elect the party’s new leadership. Bhupdev Shah, originally from Achham in the Far West, has entered the race for the post of general secretary from the Prime Minister Balen group.

As part of the convention, five central members will be elected from the Far West region. In addition, candidates can also contest from the open quota, further intensifying the competition. From sitting MPs to activists of the Genji movement, several individuals have staked their claims for central member positions.

Among those seen at the forefront for central member posts are Kailali-5 MP Anand Bahadur Chand, Kailali-2 MP KP Khanal, Kanchanpur-3 MP Gyanendra Mahata, and Dadeldhura MP Dr. Tara Prasad Joshi.

Other contenders include Hemraj Thapa of Bajura, Khemraj Saund of Achham, Vijay Jairu of Dadeldhura, Shailesh Kumar Singh of Dhangadhi, Harimohan Bhandari of Baitadi, and Karishma Katharia of Kailali.

Janika Joshi of Kailali and Chandra Air of Kanchanpur have also laid claim to central member positions.

Meanwhile, Deepak Bohara of Dadeldhura is reported to have challenged Bhupdev Shah for the post of general secretary. However, discussions are ongoing regarding a possible adjustment for the position of joint general secretary. With no agreement reached so far, Bohara is likely to enter the race for central member.

The ongoing general convention has intensified internal competition within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the party moves toward selecting its new leadership.
