Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balen Shah has said that a clear and tough decision is needed to end the growing party influence in education and bureaucracy. He made this statement while addressing the long-standing public complaint that “students and bureaucracy have been corrupted by partyization”.

According to Prime Minister Shah, over the years, student and employee organizations have been transformed into “sleeper cells” of political parties more than serving the interests of their members. He said that public trust in the overall system has been weakened due to the influence of access, bags and flags over qualifications and capabilities.

He has clarified that the move to remove party influence from education and bureaucracy is not due to any weakness or inability to build organizations. “Adding another party organization neither improves the quality of education nor protects the respect of employees,” he wrote on the social media platform Facebook.

Prime Minister Shah has now emphasized that party flags in schools and party affiliation in the bureaucracy should be banned. He claims that this will not take away rights but rather strengthen professional freedom. He also mentioned that the basis for appointments, transfers and promotions should not be party affiliation, but method, ability and efficiency.

He stressed that students should learn politics with civilization, ideas and responsibility, and that employees should serve the people, not any party. He said that this is not a campaign against any party but an attempt to reform the system and secure the future.

Expressing expectation of support and trust from all sides, Prime Minister Shah said that change is possible only through decisions. “We are committed to working in the interest of the common people,” he said.
