Lalitpur Mayor Maharjan praises Dhangadhi development, says “We have a lot to learn”
Dhangadhi: Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan has praised the development efforts of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, stating that Lalitpur has much to learn from Dhangadhi. He expressed this view during the inauguration of the ‘E-Waste Processor Training’ program organized by Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City on Sunday.
Mayor Maharjan is scheduled to participate in a program to be held in Parshuram on Monday after his visit to Dhangadhi. Speaking at the inauguration of the training, which has been initiated for the first time in Nepal by Dhangadhi, he said he was highly impressed by the city’s six-lane roads, smart lighting system, and roadside greenery.
“I was surprised to see the lights of Dhangadhi lit up. I am very happy to see such well-aligned lighting. It is a matter of pride that Dhangadhi has a mayor like Gopal Hamal who works,” he said.
Mayor Maharjan noted that although Lalitpur is a geographically small city listed as a World Heritage site, it still faces challenges in waste management. He shared that Lalitpur has adopted a policy of not purchasing petrol or diesel vehicles, except for waste-carrying vehicles, and is instead using electric vehicles. He also stated that the e-waste management program initiated in Dhangadhi would be implemented in Lalitpur as well.
Recalling a discussion on the concept of a smart city with Dhangadhi Mayor Gopal Hamal during a meeting in Malaysia four years ago, he praised Dhangadhi for now implementing that vision in practice.
Addressing the program held at the assembly hall of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, Mayor Maharjan also shared his experience of raising significant funds through public participation for the reconstruction of temples in Lalitpur after the earthquake.
“We should learn from each other. Dhangadhi has now become an exemplary sub-metropolitan city doing commendable work,” he said.
