‘Book Free Friday’ program shows positive impact in Dhangadhi schools
Dhangadhi: Students in schools within Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City have been attending classes on Fridays without books since last year, focusing instead on learning practical skills.
The ‘Book Free Friday’ program introduced by the Sub-metropolitan City is now proving to be effective. Under this initiative, students of classes 8, 9, and 10 at Bhawani Secondary School in Dhangadhi-9 are engaged in training on mobile phone making and repair.
Students, working with tools such as screwdrivers, circuit boards, and mobile components instead of textbooks, have made notable progress within a short period. They have learned skills ranging from basic concepts to advanced tasks such as changing displays and repairing motherboards.
“Connecting students with practical skills from an early age is the need of the time. Here, we are teaching the structure of mobile phones, how to identify problems, and how to solve them. The students have made encouraging progress in a short time,” said Ghuman Singh Badayak, Education Officer of the Education, Youth and Sports Division of the Sub-metropolitan City.
According to instructors, students have shown strong interest and dedication, quickly grasping the knowledge provided. They also believe that these skills could be turned into future professions.
Students shared that the training will be highly beneficial, helping them become self-reliant while continuing their studies.
The ‘Book Free Friday’ program emphasizes practical knowledge and skill development, moving beyond traditional exam-oriented teaching. Initially conducted at Thekraj Secondary School last year, the program is currently being implemented at Bhawani Secondary School and Siddhanath Secondary School.
It is believed that such local-level initiatives will help bridge the gap between education and employment, making students more competent and self-reliant.
