Over 1,000 corruption complaints filed annually in Sudurpaschim; Kailali reports highest cases
Dhangadhi: The number of corruption complaints in Sudurpaschim Province has been rising, with more than 1,000 cases filed annually in recent fiscal years. According to the Kanchanpur office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), a total of 11,952 complaints have been registered over the past 12 years. Of these, 11,409 complaints have been resolved, while 543 remain pending.
Data released by the CIAA’s Kanchanpur office on the occasion of its 35th establishment day on Wednesday show that 749 complaints were registered in fiscal year 070/71, 1,126 in 071/72, 958 in 072/73, 644 in 073/74, and 588 in 074/75. Similarly, 734 complaints were filed in 075/76, 912 in 076/77, 907 in 077/78, 707 in 078/79, 1,273 in 079/80, 1,198 in 081/82, and 686 complaints have been registered so far in the current fiscal year 082/83.
As of Magh 26 of the current fiscal year, Kailali has recorded the highest number of complaints at 292, while Dadeldhura has the lowest at 76. Kanchanpur has registered 192 complaints, Achham 124, Bajura 120, Baitadi 95, Bajhang 87, Darchula 83, and Doti 79. Of the 610 complaints registered in the current fiscal year, 538 remain pending.
Bed Prasad Bhandari, head of the CIAA Kanchanpur office, stated that 11 cases have been filed in the Special Court from the district and one sting operation has been conducted.
Durga Dutta Bohara, head of the District Coordination Committee, Kanchanpur, said that the tendency of employees in public bodies to avoid acting responsibly toward citizens also constitutes a form of corruption and urged greater awareness.
Chief Secretary of the Sudurpaschim Province Government, Baikuntha Prasad Aryal, emphasized that employees working in public institutions must uphold ethical standards to prevent corruption.
