Nepali-American runner Bal Joshi completes antarctic marathon in Daura-Suruwal
Dhangadhi: Nepali-American runner Bal Joshi has made history by completing a 42-kilometer marathon in Antarctica wearing Daura-Suruwal. Joshi hoisted both the Nepali and American flags during the marathon, which was held in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius.
This marathon was the first leg of the World Marathon Challenge “777,” featuring 56 runners from 32 countries. The challenge spans seven continents in seven days, earning it the nickname the “777 Marathon.”
Born in Surkhet, 41-year-old Joshi has been living in the United States for two decades. A professional banker, he took up running to support social causes. Prior to this, he has participated in nearly two dozen marathons across various countries worldwide.
