Badhuram Chaudhary earns Rs 70,000 monthly by selling Rattan products
Kailali: Badhuram Chaudhary of Uttarbehdi, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-4, has been earning Rs 70,000 per month by professionally making and selling rattan items. For years, he has utilized his handicraft skills to produce and market a variety of rattan products.
Chaudhary runs an industry that manufactures and sells household items, with full support from his family. He stated that the income from his rattan business supports the upbringing, education, and daily expenses of his family.
"There are five people in the house, including my wife and children. After sending the children to school in the morning, everyone, young and old, engages in this work. This industry is the primary source of our household expenses, and there is no other means to meet them. The business now covers all family expenses and also allows for some savings," Chaudhary said.
He explained that the family initially faced financial difficulties when starting the business. Due to challenges in meeting household needs and livelihood, the industry has now grown to cover all expenses while generating savings. Although it was initially difficult to find a market for cane products, demand has been steadily increasing. "Now that we have started finding a market, sales are abundant," he added. "We are unable to meet the full demand of our customers."
Chaudhary produces and sells a range of rattan products, including hangers, flower pots, pirkas, swings, and bangle hangers. He sells hangers for Rs 1,600, flower pots for Rs 450, chairs for Rs 3,000, sitting pirkas for Rs 350 to 400, and swings for Rs 2,500. With a monthly turnover of Rs 70,000, he reports a profit margin of about 40 percent. Chaudhary noted that he started the business with the intention of earning a livelihood in his own village, even if modest, rather than going abroad.
