Case filed against six over alleged corruption in Bajura maternity center construction

Bajura: A case has been registered against six individuals over alleged corruption in the construction of a maternity center building in Bajura.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed the case at the Special Court against six people, including Ashok Kumar Singh, the then acting chief of the Health Office Bajura. According to a press release, the CIAA lodged the case on Thursday, accusing them of financial irregularities in the construction of a maternity center building in Himali Rural Municipality Ward No. 6.

In the fiscal year 2075/076, the Health Office Bajura had allocated Rs 20 lakhs for the construction of the maternity center building, while the structure was built at a cost of Rs 615,206 by local consumers.

Stating that the work was carried out against the standards, the CIAA filed the case under Sections 17 and 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS. Those charged include the then acting chief of the Health Office Bajura, Ashok Kumar Singh; the then engineer of the Education Development and Coordination Unit Bajura, Sunesh Kumar Chaurasia; the then sub-engineer, Naresh Rawat; the chairman of the Maternity Center Building Construction Consumers Committee, Paras Rokaya; secretary Muna Rokaya; and treasurer Khadak Aidi.
