Lockdown in Surnaya Rural Municipality lifted after 39 days
Baitadi: The lockdown imposed in Surnaya Rural Municipality, Baitadi, has been lifted after 39 days.
The Genji and Genwai groups had locked down the rural municipality office on October 24, alleging that they were not provided necessary information. Although the groups had put forward 11 demands, prolonged disagreements between the rural municipality and the agitating parties had disrupted the municipality’s operations for over a month.
According to Information Officer Ram Singh Mahara, the executive meeting held on Sunday addressed the demands raised by the youth groups, leading to the removal of the lock on Monday.
Repeated rounds of discussions between the people's representatives and the Genwai youth had failed to bring a resolution earlier. The executive meeting ultimately decided to fulfill all the demands presented by the Genwai group. Based on these demands, the meeting also decided to dismiss all contract employees.
