Maya Metro hospital to provide free dialysis fistula surgery throughout Mangsir
Dhangadhi: Maya Metro Hospital Pvt. Ltd. has announced that it will perform free dialysis fistula surgery from Mangsir 1 to Mangsir 29 to support patients suffering from kidney-related complications.
With the rising number of kidney patients in the Far West Province and the growing dependency on regular dialysis, the required fistula surgery has become financially burdensome for many. In response, the hospital has introduced this free service as part of its social responsibility, said Dr. Sumit Karna, a kidney and urology specialist at the hospital.
According to Dr. Karna, dialysis requires a safe and reliable method to continuously extract and return blood to the body. This method is known as an arterio-venous fistula. Since normal veins cannot provide the high blood flow needed for dialysis, a strong and large vein route must be created by connecting a vein in the hand to an artery, which can last for many years.
Without a fistula, dialysis becomes difficult, increases the risk of repeated vein rupture, and heightens the risk of infection. Dr. Karna noted that since dialysis must be done two to three times a week, creating a fistula is essential.
While the government provides free dialysis to patients with kidney failure, the cost of creating a fistula prior to treatment has forced many to seek the service elsewhere at high expense. The hospital stated that the one-month free surgery initiative may be extended depending on patient numbers.
Alongside the free surgery, Maya Metro Hospital has also arranged discounts on laboratory tests, pharmacy services and bed charges to further assist patients. The hospital has encouraged all eligible patients to take advantage of this service.
