Apihimal Rural Municipality recognized for excellence in tourism development
Darchula: Apihimal Rural Municipality has been honored for its exceptional achievements in tourism development. The Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation recognized Apihimal as the best municipality in tourism development among local levels nationwide.
In a special program organized by the ministry last Friday, Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali presented the certificate of honor to Apihimal Rural Municipality Chairman Bhaktasingh Thekare Bohara. The separate ceremony was arranged as Bohara was unable to attend the main event held on September 27.
Over the past three years, Apihimal Rural Municipality has made significant strides in tourism, guided by its five-year periodic plan, annual policy and programs, and a ten-year tourism strategy. The rural municipality aims to establish itself as a premier destination in the Far West and one of the most attractive destinations in the country.
The municipality has collaborated with local, provincial, and federal agencies to implement various planned initiatives for tourism promotion. Special emphasis has been placed on agro-tourism through the ‘Agricultural Apih’ campaign, which links indigenous local products with the market, supporting the livelihoods of residents.
In addition, Apihimal has prioritized trekking and mountain climbing activities and invested in developing tourism infrastructure. A tourism information center has been established in Makarigad in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and UNDP’s Sustainable Tourism Project for Livelihood Restoration. The center provides information to tourists and assists in the sale and distribution of local products.
