70-Kilometer postal highway upgrade completed in Kailali

Dhangadhi: More than half of the postal highway upgrade work has been completed in Kailali district.

The total length of the postal highway in the district is 95.7 kilometers, of which about 70 kilometers have been upgraded so far. The project, which began in the fiscal year 2077/78, includes blacktopping to make the road four lanes in urban areas and two lanes in rural areas.

According to the Postal Highway Project Office, the Satti-Bhajani-Dhangadhi postal highway, which connects the east and west, is 66 kilometers long, and 52 kilometers of work have been completed. Work remains in the seventh package from Hasulia to Kataini Bridge and the eighth package from Bhajani to Thekipur Bridge. Blacktop and subbase work is ongoing on two kilometers of the Hasulia–Kataini section, where Swachhand JV is the contractor, said Engineer Ganesh Bahadur Budha, the project’s Information Officer.

The blacktop work is still pending on the section from Thekipur, which is being handled by Kalika-Joshi JV. Similarly, more than half of the upgrade work on the 29.7-kilometer Lamki-Tikapur-Khakraula postal highway, which connects the north and south, has also been completed. Blacktop work has been finished on 17.5 kilometers, and the final package is currently in progress. Budha said the entire postal highway upgrade in the district is expected to be completed within this fiscal year.

A budget of Rs 400 million has been allocated for the project in the current fiscal year, and the Postal Highway Project Office has stated that there are no financial constraints for ongoing works.
