Support materials distributed to 68 disabled individuals in Kailali municipalities
Kailali: A total of 68 disabled individuals from three municipalities in Kailali have received support materials aimed at improving access to education and daily life.
Altogether, 92 items of 16 different types were distributed to children of school age with disabilities. Of them, 24 items were provided to 18 individuals in Lamkichuha Municipality, 39 items to 26 individuals in Janaki Rural Municipality, and 29 items to 24 individuals in Tikapur Municipality.
According to Arun Chaudhary, Program Coordinator of Goodnews International Nepal, the distributed support materials included wheelchairs, chairs, toilet chairs, artificial legs, and artificial fingers, among others. The total cost amounted to Rs. 1,351,840.
The initiative was implemented under an inclusive project with financial and technical assistance from Goodnews International Nepal, in partnership with Sevak Nepal Kailali, and in coordination with Lamkichuha Municipality, Janaki Municipality, and Tikapur Municipality.
Janaki Municipality Chairperson Ganesh Chaudhary announced that the municipality will begin issuing disability identity cards by bringing in a specialist doctor from Tikapur Hospital once a month. “It is about making people’s lives easier. We are committed to providing all possible support to help people with disabilities live a more comfortable life,” he said.
Parents and children expressed happiness after receiving the aid. Ramu Tharu of Janaki-7, who lost his leg in a wall collapse while working as a laborer four years ago, said he can now walk easily with the help of an artificial leg provided under the program.
