Darchula: The 6,396-meter-high Lhyayul Peak (Bhabhya Himal) in the Api Himal region has been successfully climbed for the first time.

Api Himal Rural Municipality reported that a team of instructors and trainees participating in a professional mountain guide training in the Api Himal region reached the summit of Bhabhya Himal on Thursday. According to Rural Municipality Chairman Bhaktasinh Thekare Bohara, the team comprised seven members.

The mountain guide training was conducted in coordination with the rural municipality to promote climbing and attract mountaineers to Api Himal (7,131 meters), the highest peak in the Far West Province. The climbers included training instructors Lal Bahadur Jirel, Ramkaji Tiwari, Rakesh Raj Tamang, and trainees Suryaman Tamang, Suraj Tamang, Gribun Yonjan, and Dali Sherpa.

Bhabhya Himal is located to the right of Api Himal in Api Himal-1. Chairman Thekare emphasized that efforts are being made to develop tourism infrastructure, including trekking trails, accommodations, and other facilities, to boost tourism and mountaineering in the region. He noted that with the support of various organizations, work on infrastructure development is ongoing.

Previously, the federal government had announced plans to open 97 mountains in the Far West and Karnali regions for climbing free of charge for two years, aiming to promote mountaineering and tourism in these areas.
