16 women dead, 44 injured in natural disasters in Far-west over three months
Dhangadhi: Sixteen women have lost their lives due to natural disasters in Far Western Nepal between Ashoj of the current fiscal year. According to the Provincial Emergency Operations Center, these fatalities were caused by landslides, lightning, floods, fires, and other calamities.
Among the victims, five women died and eight were injured in landslides. Lightning strikes claimed the lives of two women and injured 15 others. Additional causes of death included one fatality from a flood, two from fire, one from a snakebite, and five from various other disasters.
In less than three months, 44 women were reported injured due to these events, along with 10 men who also lost their lives, while 30 others were injured.
The disasters have affected 1,334 families, causing an estimated property loss of NPR 8.48 million. Twenty-three homes were partially damaged, 32 homes were completely destroyed, and 16 barns were also affected. Additionally, 172 cattle perished due to the disasters, including 40 from landslides, 56 from lightning, eight from floods, 13 from snake bites, four due to heavy rain, 31 from other causes, and eight from forest fires.
