Vacancies in Far West Region Prompt Election Commission to Initiate By-Election Preparations
Dhangadhi: The Far West region is currently facing a void in five municipal positions, including one Provincial Assembly member, creating a need for by-elections to fill these posts.
The vacant positions include the Member of Provincial Assembly for Bajhang 1 (A), representatives from Duhun Rural Municipality-5, Surma Rural Municipality-4, the Ward Chairman of Purvi Chowki Rural Municipality-6, and the Vice Chairman of Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality in Bajura. Recognizing the urgency to address these vacancies, the Election Commission has initiated preparations for the upcoming by-elections.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Commission announced the commencement of internal preparations and called for the registration of names in the voter list. According to Shaligram Sharma Paudel, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Commission, there are currently five vacant posts in the Far West region.
The by-elections are slated to take place after the local level elections in Baisakh 2079 BS and the elections for representatives and Provincial Assembly members in November. The Election Commission's proactive steps aim to ensure the timely fulfillment of these vacant positions, which total 23 across the country in local, representative, and state assemblies.
