Over 1000 Cases of Scrub Typhus Detected in Far West Region within 2 Months

Kanchanpur: The Sudurpaschim Province has reported a significant surge in scrub typhus cases, with a total of 1,152 patients diagnosed between August and October. Hemraj Joshi, the Vector Control Inspector at the South Western Province Health Directorate, Dipayal, has noted that Kailali district has witnessed the highest number of scrub typhus cases.

Specifically, 140 cases were recorded in Darchula, 133 in Bajhang, 111 in Achham, 94 in Dadeldhura, 90 in Kanchanpur, 89 in Doti, 48 in Baitadi, and seven in Bajura, all succumbing to scrub typhus. Patients have been promptly attended to and are receiving treatment at various health posts and hospitals within their respective districts. Encouragingly, some patients have already shown signs of recovery following treatment.

In the previous year, the Far West Province recorded a total of 2,275 cases of scrub typhus. Among these, Dadeldhura reported the highest count with 545 cases, followed by Kailali with 529 cases, Kanchanpur with 377 cases, and Darchula with 324 cases. Furthermore, cases of scrub typhus were also documented in 179 individuals in Baitadi, 141 in Achham, 63 in Bajhang, and 62 in Bajura.
