Security Agencies Conduct Model Disaster Management Exercise on Mahakali River

Dhangadhi: Under the leadership of Shri Dal Gulm Bhagatpur Barracks of the Nepalese Army, three security agencies successfully carried out a model disaster management exercise this morning on the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur. The exercise involved active participation from local residents living in the coastal areas along the river. Sri Dal Gulm Bhagatpur Barracks of the Nepali Army, the District Police Office Kanchanpur, and the team from No. 35 Gan of the Armed Police Force joined forces to conduct the exercise near Bhimdatta Municipality-12, specifically at Hariharghat.

Prith Bahadur Shrestha, the Gulmapati Senani of Shridal Gulm Bhagatpur Barrack, highlighted the significance of the exercise, emphasizing that the local population has been severely affected by floods in the Mahakali River, as well as in rivers like Doda and Chaudhar in Kanchanpur. Considering the imminent monsoon season, the sample exercise aimed to enhance the preparedness and coordination of security personnel in the event of a disaster, particularly in terms of rescue and disaster management operations.

During the exercise, Gopal Prasad Aryal, the Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, emphasized the crucial role that security agencies play in effective disaster management. The Red Cross Society Kanchanpur, the NGO Nepal National Social Welfare Association (NNSWA), and Needs Nepal actively participated in the model exercise, underscoring the collaborative approach to disaster preparedness and response.

The program witnessed the presence and involvement of notable dignitaries, including Mayor Padam Bogti of Bhimdatta Municipality, Chief of Army Staff General Sanjay Kumar Ranjeet representing Sri No. 25 Bahini Adda, Chief Army Officer Diwakar Rayamazhi, Chief of the District Police Office Kanchanpur Kamal Thapa, Ganapati of Armed Police Force No. 35 Ganpati, Armed Police Superintendent Prem Bahadur Rawal, Ganapati representing Rudradhwaj Gana Naveen Bohra, and other key stakeholders.

The successful model exercise highlighted the commitment and readiness of the security agencies and local organizations to effectively manage disasters, safeguard lives, and protect the communities residing near the Mahakali River.
