Tiger responsible for fatal attack in Nepal's Shuklaphanta National Park captured and named 'Maharani'
Dhangadhi: A man-eating tiger from the Shuklaphanta National Park area of Kanchanpur has been captured and kept in the Sadar Zoo at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur. The tiger has been kept at Sadar Zoo, Jawalakhel with the help of technicians from the park and National Nature Conservation Fund.
The female-killing tiger is kept in Sadar Zoo. The tiger was kept at Sadar Zoo at 5.30 pm on Sunday. Once there, the tiger is named. The chief doctor of the zoo, Naresh Subedi, said that the female tiger was named 'Maharani'.
On 21st April (8th Baisakh), 42-year-old Gangadevi Chand was attacked in Khapti Nala in Belauri Municipality-8 Pachui village area. He died in the tiger attack. Other women managed to escape and reported to the Kunda sub-division forest office for rescue, and agencies such as Division Forest Office Kanchanpur, National Park Office (with elephants), Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and the Shuklaphanta Conservation Office of the Fund were active in rescuing the woman who was attacked and controlling the tiger. The tiger was taken under control and taken to the zoo.
Sharad Adhikari, member secretary of the National Nature Conservation Fund, said that the tiger had harmed many people and was taken under control and kept in the zoo. He informed that now the zoo has the capacity to keep 4 tigers but there are 5 tigers. Out of 5 tigers there are 4 male tigers and one female tiger. He informed that there is a tiger named Maharaja in the zoo and there is a plan to mate him and name the tiger Maharani brought from Kanchanpur.
The rescued female tiger is approximately five years old and two more (including a Nepali) have died due to tigers in the past one month in the Indian forest area near the incident area, said the member secretary officer. It is estimated that there are 36 adult panthers in and around Shuklaphanta National Park.
