Candidates including Mayor Ojha of Krishnapur in Kanchanpur were fined
Dhangadhi: People's representatives and candidates including Mayor Hemraj Ojha of Krishnapur Municipality of Kanchanpur have been prosecuted. The Election Commission has asked them to pay a fine for not providing the details of the expenses incurred in the local elections on 13th May (30th Baisakh).
The Election Commission has fined Ojha, along with his rivals Jagdish Prasad Bhatt, Jograj Chaudhary, Lokendra Prasad Pant, Surendra Bahadur Bam and Sushil Prasad Badu, who won the post of mayor. They have to pay a fine of Rs. 450,000. Deputy chief candidates Manjukumari Nepali, Ushadevi Thapa, Geeta Malla, Janaki Chand, Dropathi Rana and Ramita Kumari Rana have also been fined Rs. 450,000 each.
One hundred and 72 candidates including ward president, ward members, women members and Dalit women members have also been fined in the local level elections in Krishnapur municipality of the district. They have to pay a fine of 2 lakhs. The Election Commission has given 6 months time to the candidates to submit the details of the expenses incurred in the local level elections.
According to sub-section (3) of section 26 of the Election Commission Act, 2073, within 6 months, the office of the Election Commission code no. 212003501, Revenue Title No. 14312 and submit the application along with the filing voucher to the state and district election office or commission. The commission said that if they do not pay the fine, they will not be able to run for 6 years and will also lose their positions as elected officials.
