Three times more inmates than capacity in Kailali Jail

Dhangadhi: The district jail of Kailali has suffered because there are more prisoners than its capacity. Although Kailali District Jail has a capacity of 150 prisoners, there are currently 587 prisoners.

Among them, there are 217 prisoners, 308 indigenous men, 23 foreign prisoners adding up to 548 men. Similarly, 26 prisoners and 10 captives, 36 indigenous women and one foreign woman are in Kailali prison. There are also three dependents in the prison.

Chief of Kailali District Jail Nar Bahadur Thapa said that since it is a referral jail of Sudurpaschim Province, there is a problem due to overcrowding of inmates. Prison inmate Meen Bahadur Khadka said that due to the lack of buildings in the prison, 23 people had to stay in the same room and the toilet was also the same.
