Overcrowding in Baitadi Prison

Baitadi: It has been found that the district prison in Baitadi has more inmates than its capacity. This has been mentioned in the half-yearly report made public by the Informal Service Center (INSEC).

The report, which was made public at the bi-annual review conference of the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2023, said that the number of prisoners and detainees in the prisons was beyond their capacity. There are currently 87 inmates in the 25-capacity prison.

The report states that students in some schools in the district still do not have textbooks. The report has shown that the health facilities in the district do not have adequate equipment and necessary facilities. Not all the medicines provided free of cost by the government are available in the district health facilities. So far this year, three girls have been raped and one girl has been sexually abused in the district. Similarly, four women were raped and one woman was killed by her family. Similarly, INSEC has made public the statistics that 2 women are victims of polygamy and 19 women are victims of domestic violence.

At a program held among the stakeholders in the district, Chief District Officer Suresh Panthi assured that he would take initiative for the construction of the district jail if the upper body. He said that the roads leading to the prisons without road facilities were also measured. He said that he would try to find a solution to the issue of students not getting books.
