MPs from the far west demand to set up a medical university in Geta
Dhangadhi: The lawmakers representing the far western states have demanded to make the Geta Medical College under construction in Geta, Kailali a national medical university. On Monday, they handed over a memorandum to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
"In the far-western states, which are lagging behind in terms of development, there is still no reliable foundation for the health sector. The operation of Geta Medical College under construction in Kailali has been delayed. Now the government has decided to establish a medical college in Dadeldhura as well. The establishment of a college there may be appropriate in its place, but the government does not seem to have paid much attention to Geta, where many structures, including physical infrastructure, have already been built." It is stated in the memorandum.
Items included in the memorandum:
1. Upgrading the proposed Geta Medical College and promoting it as a National Medical University will create an environment not only in the Far West but also in the whole of Nepal for the study, teaching, research and research in the field of health. From which crores of rupees are going out for medical education every year will be stopped.
2. Citizens who have not received quality health care for years are still forced to visit Nepalgunj, Chitwan, Kathmandu or various places in India. Due to which, patients of serious nature have to suffer. With the construction of Geta Medical University, citizens will be able to avail accessible and effective services.
3. There will be a big transformation in the health sector. It will also help in various other issues including health tourism from the economic activities of the entire Far West.
4. If the university is established, a large amount of manpower will come back from inside and outside the country. After the establishment of a university here, employment opportunities will be created in the country. This will also create a situation where foreign manpower can come to their own area and take the lead in providing services.
5. With the establishment of the university, it will bring a radical change not only in the Geta region of Kailali but also in the health problems of the entire Far West and the country. Mainly in the hilly districts of the far west and also in the Terai districts, there will be an environment for the citizens to get more quality health care than what they are getting now.
6. With the establishment of the university, various programs of medical education such as Pharmacy, Public Health, Medical Laboratory, Physiotherapy, Dental, Optometry and PhD Science will be conducted here. It will produce skilled manpower. Various foreign students, professors and other people who want to do research will also come here. Due to which the overall development process of this state will accelerate.
7. If the university can move forward by establishing, the common citizen will also get the opportunity for medical studies. The problem of rising manpower due to rising unemployment will have to be reduced.
