Discussions underway to establish railway services across Kailali and Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur: Discussions have been held with the municipalities of Kanchanpur and Kailali to establish railway services. The study team deployed by the Railway Department under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of the Government of Nepal have held discussions for the establishment of a railway service with the municipalities of Kanchanpur and Kailali.

The team has discussed with the concerned municipalities of both the districts in connection with the Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the construction of a 90 km long railway from Sukhkhad in Kailali to Gadda Chowki in Kanchanpur under the Mechi-Mahakali Railway Project.

Godhaghodi Municipality of Kailali, Gauriganga Municipality, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan Municipality, and Godawari Municipality and Krishnapur Municipality of Kanchanpur, Laljhadi Rural Municipality, Shuklaphanta, Bedkot, and Bhimdatta Municipality are conducting environmental impact assessment for the same purpose. There will be 11 stations from Sukkhad to Gaddachauki.

The railway is said to be about 300 meters to 1,300 meters south of the east-west highway. A discussion program on railway construction was organized in the Laljhadi rural municipality of Kanchanpur.

According to a member of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study Team and an environmentalist, the train will run at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour after the electric railway comes into operation.
