Dhangadhi: A Bajura youth has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Dipayal High Court for killing a baby born from Hadnata Karni. Prince Baduwal of Bajura has been sentenced to life imprisonment for pressuring to kill a pregnant baby.

The prince was accused of raping his sister-in-law (name changed to Rinku). The girl, who became pregnant after the rape, had given birth to a baby on June 10, 2010. The victim alleged that the prince had been pressuring her to kill him as soon as the baby was born. The girl had killed her own child by feeding her poison in 34 days after the prince repeatedly pressured her to be held accountable for any problem.

The Bajura district court had acquitted the prince in the case. However, a joint bench of Kamu Chief Justice Teknarayan Kunwar and Justice Jagat Bahadur Thapa on Tuesday found Rajkumar guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The High Court has upheld the sentence handed down by the Bajura District Court to the girl for four years. A woman has been sentenced to six months in prison for helping to feed a child by bringing poisonous herbs. In most cases of infanticide, only the mother giving birth has been found guilty. But this time, the high court also sentenced those who pressured him to kill.
