Doti: The consumption of alcohol has resulted in increased number of crimes in Doti district, the police claimed. Police Inspector Rabindra Chand said 25 cases out of 139 cases registered in total were linked to alcohol intake in the fiscal year 2077/078 in the district.
According to police, the criminal cases were reported from the district headquarters and settlements around the highways. Similarly, 38 cases relating to domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence were registered. In the last one month, at least 18 cases occurred due to alcohol consumption, Deputy Superintendent of Police Indra Bahadur Malla said. "Alcohol intake is the main reason behind the most of the cases registered here. Situation has been created to impose a ban on alcohol in Doti district," he shared.
Police Inspector Kantiraj Joshi said the local people lodged application demanding that alcohol sale and distribution be banned in the district. The District Police Office said so far more than 24 persons died in brawls caused due to the alcohol consumption.
Superintendent of Police and Chief of District Police Office, Doti, Dan Bahadur Malla, said that they were working to impose a ban on alcohol sale, adding that "We have not achieved success in it, however".
