Emergency ward of Seti Provincial Hospital also filled with Coronavirus patients
Dhangadhi : The emergency ward of Seti Provincial Hospital Dhangadhi is full of patients infected with Coronavirus.
The patients are facing discomfort due to paucity of beds to accommodate them. Therefore, they are found sharing beds with fellow patients suffering from Coronavirus. Even the floors in the hospital are full of patients.
Tents are being set up outside the ward and patients are being treated on benches and chairs in the open space. Although, Seti Provincial Hospital has a designated building to treat the patients of Coronavirus, the patients were admitted to the emergency ward after the designated builiding was full of patients.
The patients admitted in the emergency ward are also facing an acute shortage of medicines for their treatment. While, many of the patients have been adviced to go elsewhere to seek treatment. There is a scarcity of oxygen in the hospital and doctors are not visiting to see the condition of the patients. “Where are the doctors? Leave alone checking on the patients they are not even ready to take a look at their prescriptions,” said a patient’s relative.
A patient’s relative said, “We have to beg, touch their feet and join our hands infront of them to call the doctors when the patient’s condition is declining. Many nurses and other junior doctors do come but the specialists for lungs and chest are no where to be seen.”
The patients have complained that they were reprimanded in a rude manner on trying to call the doctor while facing excessive pain. On top of that, the lack of timely management of the bodies of those who die at the hospital has added to the psychological implications on other patients undergoing treatment.
"They don't pick up the corpses until there are 4 to 5 bodies to manage together," said another patient’s relative. "The bodies are left on the bed until they have enough bodies to manage. Will that not impact the patients? Even the ones who are recovering lose their will-power on seeing that,” he added.
It is very essential for the doctors to pay attention to the patients and take rounds regularly. The doctors need to be more accessible and the patients should be allowed to share their medical reports via email or Facebook. While every individual should try to take precautions to keep the virus at bay.
