Dhangadhi: A group of disgruntled teachers have padlocked the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Dadeldhura demanding swift payment of their remunerations.

The Unit was locked by teachers working under the teaching-learning grant quota in community schools. The Government of Nepal disbursed a lump sum for community schools across the country last June. However, no official information has been received about the disbursement of the allocated amount, said Keshav Bahadur Saud, coordinator of the struggle committee.

According to him, they initially sent a letter to the local level, Education Development and Coordination Unit, Education and Human Resource Development Centre and the Minister of Education, but none of the departments reverted to the letter.

The Government of Nepal has been providing a budget to schools facing shortage of teachers since 2075 BS to ensure English, Maths and Science teaching staff. But this year, the amount has not been processed for the past eight months due to outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The teachers have demanded that the budget for the fiscal year be released, and that the teachers working with the grant be given the same allowance as the permanent teachers as instructed by the Government of Nepal.
