Upgradation of Bajhang Airport reaches the final stage
Bajhang: The work of upgrading Dewal Airport in Bajhang has reached the final stage. The work of fencing and construction of drains around the airport has been completed.
The construction work of the airport has reached the final stage with the completion of other physical infrastructure works except the terminal building. After repeated pressure to start the airport, the Civil Aviation Authority had called for a tender for the airport blacklist in July 2075.
Amar Construction was given the responsibility of upgrading the airport to be completed within 18 months at a cost of Rs 55 million. Although the target was to be completed in April, the construction work of the airport was affected due to the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 Corona virus, said Pradip Dangol, a representative of the contractor company.
According to Dangol, aircrafts can be landed and the airport will be operational if the Ministry of Aviation allows flights to operate.
The locals are happy that the airport, which has been closed for 10 years, will be reopened. Aircrafts could not take off as the Dewal Airport, built in 2035 BS, could not be upgraded.
Although the Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation started flying on a weekly basis at that time, there were no flights at the airport in 2065 BS as there was easy road access to the Bajhang headquarters Chainpur. In 2066 BS, the corporation had closed its office at Bajhang headquarters.
