Dhangadhi: Natural calamities have caused great loss of life and property in the Far-West. During the last four months, floods, landslides, and lightning have caused great damage.

At least 39 people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in natural disasters in all nine districts of the state. The disaster has displaced thousands of families. Details of the physical and financial damage during the four-month period have not yet been collected. Ten people have died in the district in the last four months due to natural calamities. Chakra Bahadur BK, Ishwar Shah and Skale Chaudhary of Bhajani Municipality Ward No. 8 were killed due to floods. Similarly, thousands of families in Latikapur and Bhajani municipalities and Janaki, Joshipur and Kailari villages have been displaced.

According to preliminary data from local levels, 500 families have been displaced in Tikapur municipality, 600 in Janaki village and 1,600 in Bhajani municipality. Details of the damage in Joshipur and Kailari villages have not been prepared yet. The local levels have taken time to collect the details of full damage, partial damage and general damage. Shivraj Joshi, information officer at the District Administration Office of Kailali, said that there was a problem in collecting the details of the damage as the water was still pooled in the flood-affected area. ‘Local levels have been asked to collect details of the damage.

Bajhang has suffered the most one-time human casualties in the Far-West due to the disaster. Six people were killed and one is still missing after a landslide in Mallesi of Kedarsyu Rural Municipality Ward 8 of the district. 22 familes have been displaced. According to the District Administration Office of Bajhang, the bodies of Ramti Devi Jethara age 43, Shanti Kumari Jethara age 16, Prayog Jethara age 13, and Ashmita Jethara age 7 have been found.

Similarly, the bodies of 15-year-old Santu Jethara and 81-year-old Dale Jethara were found. Giri Jethara age 20, is missing, said Bajhang Chief District Officer Kamal Raj Bhandari. Four people have been killed in a landslide in Bajura district. However, some settlements are still at risk of landslides. Chief District Officer of Bajura, Krishna Gare, said that the village was at risk of landslides but no details were available. He said, ‘Details of agriculture have also been requested, but are yet to come. The collection work is in progress. ' Meanwhile, three people each have died due to natural calamities in Kanchanpur and Achham, seven in Darchula and one each in Doti and Dadeldhura, according to the State Police Office.

Thirty-five families of Bhurkelagau of Doti have been displaced due to landslide. Chief District Officer Bhim Prasad Bhatrai said that Tamsu village in Triveni Municipality Ward No. 9 of Bajura is at risk of landslide. He said that there was no major damage in Doti but small landslides were reported. Thus, 39 people have died in the last four months due to natural calamities in the state.

Although it is estimated that tens of thousands of families have been displaced and millions of rupees have been lost, the details have not been collected yet. Local levels have said that work is underway to collect details of the damage.
