Kailali Christians Raise Rs. 801,150 for Bhote Koshi Flood Victims

Attariya: Christians in Kailali have raised and donated Rs. 801,150 to assist those affected by the floods in the Bhote Koshi River. The Christian Unity Society (Khristiyan Ekta Samaj) of Kailali collected voluntary offerings from churches across all 13 municipalities of the district and contributed the funds to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund.

During a press conference held in Attariya on Tuesday, the Society announced that the donation was made to support rescue, medical treatment, and relief efforts for citizens affected by the Bhote Koshi River floods that occurred on Bhadra 10.

Khadak BK, the Society’s Secretary, explained that the funds were accumulated by collecting the equivalent of one day’s offering from churches across various municipalities in Kailali.

“We collected one day’s offering from local churches throughout Kailali district,” he said. “All executive committee members of the Unity Society, along with churches affiliated with the Society across all 13 municipalities, voluntarily collected these offerings.”

Gyan Bahadur Chaudhary, the Society’s President, stated that they raised as much as possible through offerings to assist the Bhote Koshi flood victims. He noted that while some individuals had visited the affected area to provide direct aid, this current contribution comes from those who were unable to travel there personally.

Pastor Devraj Bhatta mentioned that the funds were collected from various churches with the conviction that it is essential to provide assistance during times of disaster. He expressed hope that the donated funds would be utilized effectively for their intended purpose.

David Kaini, President of the Godawari Christian Society, stated that committees have been formed across 11 municipalities through the ‘Ekta Samaj’ (Unity Society). He mentioned that voluntary contributions collected from each committee were deposited into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

He detailed the amounts collected: Rs 170,104 from Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City; Rs 119,700 from Godawari Municipality; Rs 29,800 from Gauriganga Municipality; Rs 51,395 from Ghodaghodi; Rs 47,320 from Bhajani; Rs 50,000 from Lamkichuha; Rs 247,760 from Tikapur; Rs 21,727 from Joshipur; Rs 55,215 from Bardagoriya; Rs 16,248 from Janaki Rural Municipality; and Rs 18,045 from Kailari.

He noted that the entire sum was raised through contributions from congregation members and added that there are 36 congregations in Godawari alone.
