Bhote Koshi Flood: 1,436 Bodies Recovered, 4,655 People Still Missing

Kathmandu: A total of 1,436 bodies of those who lost their lives in the Bhote Koshi flood have been recovered.

According to the Nepal Police, as of 11:00 AM today, the breakdown of the 1,434 recovered bodies is as follows: Rasuwa (223), Nuwakot (203), Dhading (72), Chitwan (365), Gorkha (79), Tanahun (38), Nawalparasi East (232), and Nawalparasi West (222).

The police stated that DNA samples were collected to identify the recovered bodies, and 1,292 bodies have been managed so far.

A total of 3,283 DNA samples, comprising 1,286 from the deceased and 1,997 from relatives, have been collected for identification purposes. Details regarding the 1,362 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the police website.

So far, 7,975 police personnel have been deployed to flood-affected areas for tasks including rescue, search operations, relief distribution, and the management of bodies. Search operations are ongoing for 4,655 missing persons.
