Nepal-India border coordination committee meeting concludes in Pithoragarh

Baitadi: The Nepal-India Border Coordination Committee meeting has concluded in Pithoragarh, India, with both sides expressing commitment to resolving common border-area issues through mutual dialogue, coordination and established mechanisms while maintaining peace, security and harmony.

According to Baitadi Chief District Officer Meena Aryal, the meeting discussed peace and security, crime control, disaster management, trade facilitation, and the maintenance and construction of infrastructure in border areas.

The meeting also agreed to regularly exchange information between the security agencies of Nepal and India to control illegal activities, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking and other border-related crimes. Officials from both countries also discussed measures to make border movement smooth and effective.

“The risk of landslides and flash floods exists on both sides of Nepal and India,” said Pradya Aryal. “The meeting also discussed forming a common mechanism for exchanging information for disaster management.”

The meeting agreed to continue border coordination meetings by further strengthening friendly relations between Nepal and India at the people-to-people level.

The meeting was attended by officials and representatives of security agencies from Baitadi and Darchula districts of Nepal, led by Chief District Officer Aryal. Officials and representatives of security agencies from Pithoragarh district of India were also present.
