Bhotekoshi Flood: 4,270 Rescued, 4,599 Still Missing

Kathmandu: A total of 4,270 people who lost contact after floods swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers have been rescued so far, while 4,599 remain missing, according to Nepal Police.

According to the Police Headquarters, Naxal, those rescued include 3,033 men, 1,254 women and 13 unidentified people.

With a significant number of people still out of contact, the rescue operation has been intensified, with security personnel and other government machinery mobilized with priority given to search and rescue efforts.

Nepal Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle said 3,453 of those rescued have been kept in holding centers. Of them, 2,466 are in Nuwakot, 260 in Dhading, 398 in Rasuwa and 329 in Kathmandu.

Police said the bodies of 581 people who lost their lives in the devastating floods have been buried and managed. The figure includes 121 women, 198 men and 262 unidentified people. Another 56 bodies have been handed over to the families and relatives of the deceased.

According to spokesperson Kafle, 1,010 bodies have been recovered so far. Of these, 30 are boys, 35 are girls, 209 are women, 385 are men and 351 have partial limbs. The process of identifying and managing the recovered bodies is ongoing.

Police said 2,980 Nepalis, including 2,312 men and 368 women, 581 foreigners, including 251 men and 330 women, and 1,329 people reported missing by phone remain unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations, body management and the collection of details of missing people are continuing in the flood-affected areas.

Police said government agencies are working around the clock in coordination, giving high priority to rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation amid the severe loss of life and property caused by the devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other areas.
