4 arrested in Kanchanpur with customs-evading goods worth Rs 2.38 million
Kanchanpur: Four people have been arrested in Kanchanpur with goods illegally imported from India by evading customs duties, with the seized items estimated to be worth Rs 2.38 million.
Gautam Joshi, 26, of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-9, was arrested from Majhagaun, Bhimdatta Municipality-16, on Monday evening with an iPhone mobile phone worth Rs 912,596. A police team deployed from the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, took Joshi into custody along with the mobile phone.
Similarly, 32-year-old Shivanand Sharma and 30-year-old Wahid Ali, residents of Kamalapur, Lakhimpur, India, and 20-year-old Kailash Joshi of Belauri Municipality-4, Kanchanpur, were arrested from Bhurakot, Belauri Municipality-6.
According to the Area Police Office, Belauri, the three were found with nine bags of sugar worth an estimated Rs 1.396 million, 27 bags of watermelon seeds and two bicycles. The goods had been illegally brought from India by evading customs duties.
Police said the three individuals were taken into custody along with the seized goods last night.
