Flower entrepreneurs urge action against sale of banned plastic flowers in Dhangadhi
Dhangadhi: Flower entrepreneurs in Kailali have demanded that authorities control the local flower market through the District Administration Office, stating that the open import, sale and distribution of banned plastic artificial flowers have adversely affected the local flower business.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief District Officer, the entrepreneurs said that the sale and distribution of banned artificial flowers have caused financial losses to Nepali farmers, as they have been unable to sell the fresh flowers they produce. According to them, this has also negatively impacted the local flower business, employment and environmental protection.
The memorandum calls for the activation of the market monitoring committee under the leadership of the District Administration Office, legal action against traders involved in selling banned plastic flowers, and control of illegal supply in coordination with customs, police and local authorities.
It also suggests that local governments conduct regular market monitoring, prioritize the use of local flowers in public programs, government offices and schools, and adopt policies to promote the local flower business.
The entrepreneurs have urged concerned authorities to immediately carry out joint monitoring to stop the sale and distribution of banned plastic flowers and to take effective measures to protect Nepali farmers and flower businesses.
The memorandum further states that controlling the trade of banned artificial flowers is essential for environmental protection, promotion of domestic production and strengthening of the local economy.
