Massive fire at Delhi restaurant leaves 10 dead
A massive fire broke out at the Lemon Green restaurant in Malviya Nagar, the Indian capital, on Wednesday morning, killing 10 people.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, 10 fire engines were dispatched to the site after receiving information about the fire at around 10 am. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after several hours of effort.
After the fire was extinguished, rescue teams evacuated people in critical condition from the basement of the restaurant. Ten of those rescued were confirmed dead, while three others rescued alive have been admitted to hospital for treatment.
According to local witnesses, the fire began on the ground floor of the building. After the flames broke through the windows, the fire rapidly spread to the basement, trapping those inside before they could escape.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Officials said that rescue and investigation work is ongoing at the site.
