Speaking during today’s emergency meeting of the National Assembly, lawmakers suggested that the government engage in dialogue based on historical facts and evidence to address the matter.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Sunil Bahadur Thapa stated that the border issue should be resolved through dialogue between the two countries using established diplomatic mechanisms. “The government should adopt a restrained, clear, and responsible diplomatic approach on this issue,” he said.
Nepali Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishkarma stressed that no one should make statements that undermine the country’s geographical integrity and sovereignty.
Similarly, Nepal Communist Party (UML) lawmaker Samjhana Devkota suggested that the border issue be resolved through diplomatic means, noting that the Nepal-India border was determined by the Sugauli Treaty of 1816.
