Kanchanpur: The statue of the late King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shahdev was restored at the Mahendra Memorial in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, on Sunday, Falgun 3, coinciding with Mahashivaratri.

The restoration program, long demanded by local residents, was completed with active participation from the community. The event was attended by a large number of citizens, social workers, intellectuals, and representatives of various organizations. The restoration is seen as an important step in preserving historical memory and cultural identity.

Local residents emphasized that, as the city’s name and identity are directly linked to King Mahendra, restoring his statue was both natural and necessary. They noted that the absence of the statue had left a void in the historical continuity of Mahendranagar.

Speakers at the program highlighted that development should not focus solely on physical infrastructure but also on preserving historical memory and cultural values. They stated that such monuments play a vital role in connecting the new generation with history.

The restoration was achieved through the collective efforts, financial support, and management of the local community.
