CPN-UML Kailali leader Mahadev Bhatta resigns, declares independent status
Attaria: CPN-UML leader Mahadev Bhatta has officially resigned from the party, announcing that he will no longer remain an ordinary member of the UML. The announcement was made through a press release issued on Monday.
In the statement, Bhatta outlined his political journey, beginning in 2041 with the All India Nepal Unity Society, a sister organization of the National Janamorcha. He joined CPN-UML in 2048 and obtained organized membership in 2049, gradually contributing to the party’s organizational growth.
He highlighted his previous leadership roles, including being elected vice-chairman of the former Kailapalmandou VDC in the 2054 local elections and serving as acting chairman of the VDC (now Ganyapadhura Rural Municipality) from 2056 to 2059. Bhatta became active in Kailali politics after 2064, serving twice as a member of the Kailali District Committee and once as coordinator of the District Advisory Council.
Explaining his decision to resign, Bhatta cited growing differences between the party’s principles and practices, citing concerns over internal democracy, transparency, and leadership style. “Due to the wrong political practices seen within the party in recent times, the working style of the leadership and the gap between principles and practices, internal democracy, transparency, and people-oriented practices have not been strengthened as expected. Therefore, I have decided to separate from the ordinary membership of CPN-UML and all responsibilities, prioritizing my self-respect, ideological freedom, and public interest,” he stated.
Bhatta further emphasized that he will not join any political party in the future and will continue as an independent citizen.
