238 Kailali prison escapees remain at large
Dhangadhi: A total of 238 prisoners who escaped from Kailali District Jail during the Genji movement on Bhadra 24 are still at large.
Out of the 665 prisoners who fled, 427 have returned, according to Jailer Chiranjivi Sapkota. Kailali District Jail houses a significant number of inmates involved in drug-related and serious crimes. Among the absconding prisoners, 19 are Indian nationals, 18 are women, and 201 are men.
Although the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a task force to apprehend the escapees, not all fugitives from jails across the country have returned. Jailer Sapkota stated that prisoners are gradually returning, despite none returning during the Dashain and Tihar festivals.
He also noted that letters have been sent to Indian authorities to prevent escapees from crossing the open border. “If an escaped prisoner attempts to flee to India, they will be arrested. We have already sent a notification. While none returned during Dashain and Tihar, some prisoners are now coming back,” he said.
