Nepal and Oman qualify for 2026 T20 world cup
Kathmandu: Nepal and Oman have secured their spots in the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
Both teams confirmed their qualification as the top two finishers in the ongoing Asia-East Asia region World Cup qualifiers in Oman. This marks Nepal’s second consecutive World Cup appearance and third overall. Nepal first participated in the World Cup in Bangladesh in 2014 and later in the United States and West Indies in 2024.
Currently competing in the Super Six stage, Nepal won two consecutive matches, earning four points, in addition to two points from the group stage, bringing their total to six points. Only three teams in the Super Six can reach six points, and with Nepal and Oman already among them, both have secured their World Cup places.
Following Qatar’s victory over Japan on Wednesday, Nepal and Oman confirmed their qualification. Nepal will face Oman on Wednesday and Samoa on Friday, while Oman will play Japan on Friday. Qatar, with two points from three Super Six matches, has one game remaining.
The third team to qualify for the World Cup will be determined based on the remaining Super Six matches, with UAE, Japan, Samoa, and Qatar competing for the spot. Among these, UAE holds the strongest chance, having carried two points from the group stage but suffering defeats to Nepal and Oman in the Super Six. UAE will face Japan today, and a win would bring their points to four.
